Semi-Automatic Word Normalization in Parish Records
Hříbek, David ; Zbořil, František (referee) ; Rozman, Jaroslav (advisor)
This work deals with the extension of DEMoS web application for the management of parish records by the possibility of normalization (assignment of a normalized form of writing to individual words) of names, surnames, occupations, domiciles and other types of words occurring in parish records. In the solution, a duplicate record detection process was used, which allowed sorting of the records from parish records into clusters of similar words. As a result of the clustering, it was possible to share normalized word variants within these clusters. Thus, DEMoS suggests normalized variants for words entered by users, used not only for the same words, but also for similar words. In this work, automatic testing of word clustering was proposed. In total, 640 different combinations of clustering parameters were tested for each word type. Subsequently, the best clustering parameters were selected for each word type. By normalizing words, DEMoS application significantly increases the efficiency of searching in parish records. Records are also easier to read.

Deduplication methods in databases
Vávra, Petr ; Kyjonka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Skopal, Tomáš (referee)
In the present work we study the record deduplication problem as an issue of data quality. We define duplicates as records having different syntax and the same semantics and which are representing the same real-world entity. The main goal of this work is to provide the overview of existing deduplication methods according to their requirements, results and usability. We focus on the comparison of two groups of record deduplication methods - with and without the domain knowledge. Therefore, the second part of this work is dedicated to the implementation of our method which does not utilize any domain knowledge and compare its results with the results of commercial tool deeply utilizing the domain knowledge.
Data backup technology with a focus on backup between remote sites using the EMC Avamar deduplication backup
KINDELMANN, Ladislav
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the way data backup of remote sites deduplication technology system used by EMC Avamar. This is a special type of data compression used not only when saving to disk arrays, but also in a virtual environment. Deduplication ensures saving storage space and reliability of data recovery. EMC Avamar system is one of the best-engineered and most extensive systems of which the above technology is used. The dissertation is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part student briefly summarize the available backup technologies and describes the remote backup methods, including examples using available software and hardware requirements. Then it specifies details of EMC Avamar and its implementation, HW requirements and functioning of the entire system. Student will analyzes the data deduplication technology, which the system uses, description of data transferring and the possible advantages and disadvantages compared to other systems. In the practical part it creates own proposal for implementation of data backup using the above mentioned system in a business environment between the two branches of the company. The aim will be to show the real technology features, advantages and shortcomings. The conclusion of the dissertation the student all accompanied overview of the use of backup systems in today's global market.

Componentization of Linked Data Transformations
Pilař, Štěpán ; Mynarz, Jindřich (advisor) ; Knap, Tomáš (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on transformation of linked data and opportunities for componentization of extract, transform, load process resulting in reusability of such components. UnifiedViews serves as a framework for demonstration of implementa-tion of selected components. Initial review of related fields of study, relational data oriented ETL and linked data quality management being most prominent, is followed by bottom-up analysis of existing extractors and transformations. Identified common transformations are supplemented by operations known from transformations of relational data. Options and limits of each component candidate are discussed as well as possible cooperation with other components. The next section discusses supported ways of implementation in the selected environment and provides a list of key questions for decision making process is provided. The last part describes implementation of selected components with respect to the approach suggested in the preceding section. Practical use as well as limitations of the implemented components are demonstrated on tasks transforming public contracts datasets.
